Why in news?
Chhattisgarh’ s first ever interstate bird survey was conducted in the Kanger Valley national park
Highlights:
- Survey was conducted by Forest department of Kanger Valley National Park and birders from Chhattisgarh in collaboration with Birds and Wildlife of Chhattisgarh and Bird Count India.
- The survey revealed that the landscape of Kanger Valley can potentially host species found in the Himalayas, the Northeast, the Eastern and Western Ghats.

- Location: Jagdalpur in the Bastar region Chhattisgarh, India

- it is one of India’s densest national parks, and is known for its biodiversity, landscape, waterfalls, and subterranean geomorphologic limestone caves
- It is a home of the Bastar hill myna, the state bird of Chhattisgarh.

- The national park has mainly Cuddapah group of rock formation and at some places Vindhyan group of rock formation
- Renowned eco-tourism site : Tirathgarh Waterfalls

Fauna : Malabar giant squirrel, chital, rhesus macaques, grey langurs, scat of sloth bears and leopards and Indian wolf, an endangered species is also seen
