Why in news?  After Three years of programme , Ayushman Bharat School Health and Wellness Programme has less than 50% uptake


Highlights

  • Only 15 States have started the weekly 40-minute classroom sessions with students
  • Only four States and Union Territories — Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli — have achieved 100% coverage.
  • Uttar Pradesh (29%), Karnataka (31%), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (32%) and Madhya Pradesh (34%) have also not met targets.

About the Programme

  • It is joint collaborative programme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education
  • The vision of the programme Intends to facilitate an integrated approach to health programming and more effective learning at the school level
  • There are 11 themes identified under the programme
  • Initiative targets both Education and Health implementers and is envisaged to facilitate an integrated approach to health programming and more effective learning at the school level.
  • Health promotion and prevention activities program has been added in addition to ongoing health screening program through Rasthriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) teams and provision of services (IFA, Albendazole and sanitary napkins).
  • Two teachers, preferably one male and one female, in every school designated as “Health and Wellness Ambassadors” will be trained to transact health promotion and disease prevention information
  • The syllabus, designed by the NCERT in conjunction with the Ministries of Health and Education, covers 11 core themes including managing emotional and mental health, navigating interpersonal relationships, and promoting the safe use of the Internet and social media.
