NEWS – India started its four-year term as a member of the United Nations Statistical Commission
UNITED NATIONS STATISTICAL COMMISSION
- Functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
- Established in 1947
- Assist ECOSOC in promoting the development of national statistical services
- Mandate – setting statistical standards, coordinating international statistical activities, and providing a platform for the discussion of statistical issues
- Composed of chief statisticians from member countries, typically at the national statistical office level
- Members are elected by ECOSOC for a four-year term, and they meet annually to discuss and coordinate statistical activities.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a global indicator framework for the SDGs. This framework includes a set of indicators and statistical data to monitor progress toward achieving the SDGs
