NEWS – India’s External Affairs Minister participated in the First ‘ASEAN Future Forum’

HIGHLIGHTS

• Purpose of ASEAN Future Forum:
  • Acts as a platform for ASEAN and its partners to exchange innovative ideas and propose policy recommendations.
  • Aims to create a unified platform where ASEAN member states, partner countries, and ASEAN citizens can contribute to shaping the development path of the ASEAN Community.
• Origin and Theme:
  • Proposed by Vietnam during the 43rd ASEAN Summit in 2023.
  • The theme of the first forum was “Toward fast and sustainable growth of a people-centered ASEAN Community.”
• Location: The inaugural ASEAN Future Forum took place in Hanoi, Vietnam.

ASEAN  

• Established in 1967 with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration.
• Founding members: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
• Current membership includes 10 countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
• Focuses on fostering intergovernmental cooperation across various sectors such as economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural integration among member states and with other countries in Asia.
