  • The Combined Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) increased by 5.2% in March 2024 compared to March 2023. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) measures the growth rate of industry groups in sectors like Mining, Manufacturing, and Electricity, as well as use-based sectors such as Basic Goods, Capital Goods, and Intermediate Goods. The National Statistics Office (NSO), established in 1951, compiles and publishes the IIP using data from 14 source agencies. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation oversees IIP calculation, with the base year set at 2011-2012 for comparison. The IIP includes eight core sectors like Refinery Products, Electricity, Steel, Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Cement, and Fertilizers, crucial for gauging overall industrial production trends.
