NEWS – Cultural Mapping Initiative Launched in India

HIGHLIGHTS

• Launched under the National Mission on Cultural Mapping (NMCM).
• Aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the cultural heritage of 6.5 lakh villages across India.

Objectives:

• Preserve the cultural heritage and identity of rural communities.
• Create awareness about the connection between cultural heritage and development.

Components of the Initiative:

1. National Registers:
   • Creation of National Registers of Artists and Art Practices.
2. Digital Platforms:
   • Development of a web portal and mobile app as part of the National Cultural Work Place (NCWP).
   • Accessible through the Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar Web Portal: Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar.

Usage:

• The database can be utilized by government ministries and organizations to safeguard and promote cultural identities and traditions of the identified villages.
