  • Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete to win two medals at a single Olympics, clinching bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. Manika Batra became the first Indian table tennis player to reach the singles pre-quarterfinals with a 4-0 win over Prithika Pavade.
  • From September, NAAC will use AI for its Binary Accreditation system to verify data from higher education institutions. AI will assess data reliability and, if needed, use crowdsourcing from stakeholders (faculty and students) for validation. Physical visits will be reserved for exceptional cases. Workshops are being held to familiarize stakeholders with the new system.
  • Popularly called the “Tree Man of Channapatna”, Bhoohalli Puttaswamy in over 20 years had single-handedly planted thousands of saplings on close to 40 acres of barren land, by the side of roads and on government land. The 69-year-old retired history lecturer, Kannada poet, playwright and environmentalist from Bhoohalli of Channapatna taluk died at his Channapatna residence.

The BBMP Act has been amended to introduce a new tax policy requiring three notices before property confiscation or auction.
  • India’s nuclear regulator has approved the operationalization of the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam. This reactor, marking India’s entry into the second phase of its nuclear power program, is designed to generate more fuel than it consumes. The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) granted approval for the “first approach to criticality” on July 27, with comprehensive safety measures in place. The PFBR is being commissioned by BHAVINI, and its operation aims to advance India’s nuclear technology and energy independence goals.
  • India’s first sunken museum was inaugurated on July 29 at Humayun’s Tomb complex in New Delhi by Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The museum features over 500 artefacts, many on display for the first time, and is inspired by traditional ‘baolis’ (water tanks). It includes Mughal miniatures, manuscripts, coins, textiles, and an immersive gallery with a 270-degree screen for virtual tours of Humayun’s Tomb. Developed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and ASI, the museum’s opening on July 30 coincided with the 46th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session. Humayun’s Tomb, built by Empress Bega Begum, is the first garden-tomb in the subcontinent and inspired the Taj Mahal’s design.
