NEWS – The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved India’s joining of the International Energy Efficiency Hub (Hub) by signing a ‘Letter of Intent’. This marks a significant move in India’s efforts towards sustainable energy practices and global collaboration in energy efficiency.

About International Energy Efficiency Hub
- Establishment: The Hub was established in 2020 as the successor to the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC), in which India was already a member.
- Purpose: It serves as a global platform for fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and promoting innovative energy efficiency solutions.
- Membership: Sixteen nations, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, and the United States, are members of this Hub.
India’s Role in the Hub
- Access to Global Expertise: India will now gain access to a vast network of experts and resources to improve its domestic energy efficiency strategies.
- Knowledge Sharing: India will contribute its own expertise and benefit from the international exchange of innovative solutions and energy-efficient technologies.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) – Implementing Agency
- Role of BEE: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory agency under the Ministry of Power, has been designated as the implementing agency for India’s participation in the Hub.
- Responsibilities: BEE will ensure India’s active involvement in the Hub’s activities and that contributions align with the nation’s energy efficiency objectives.
