NEWS – Karnataka Forest Department to implement ‘Garudakshi’ software for online registration of forest and wildlife crime cases.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Initial implementation in five divisions: Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru forest mobile squad, Bhadravati, Sirsi, and Malai Mahadeshwara Wildlife Division.
- Software automates FIR filing and document generation (excluding Mahajar), reducing processing time.
- System provides prompts and reminders for timely case follow-up, aiming to increase conviction rates.
- Initiative aims to effectively combat the rising number of forest and wildlife crimes in the state.
- Developed by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) with support from NTT DATA (originally named HAWK).
- WTI conducting workshops to train forest officers on using the software.
- Four Key Modules:
- Legacy Module: Uploads case data dating back to 1993.
- Online FIR Module: User-friendly interface for registering FIRs online.
- Investigation Module: Assists in document creation and further investigation.
- Reporting and Analytics Module: Analyzes progress at divisional and sub-divisional levels.
