NEWS – NITI Aayog, in its policy report ‘Expanding Quality Higher Education Through States and State Public Universities’, has appreciated Karnataka’s ‘English Skills for Youth’ initiative.

OVERVIEW OF THE INITIATIVE

• Launched in the 2024-25 academic year by the Department of Higher Education, Karnataka.
• Implemented in collaboration with the British Council and Microsoft.
• Aimed at improving English proficiency among engineering students to enhance their employment prospects.

Scope and Reach

• Targeted 5,795 students across 16 government engineering colleges.
• Part of a broader effort to advance higher education, enhance language skills, and improve employability.

• Scholars for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent (SCOUT):
  • Select students from six universities participate in a fortnight-long tour to the University of East London.
