NEWS – Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna has nominated Justice B R Gavai as his successor.
HIGHLIGHT
- Justice Gavai is currently the second senior-most judge in the Supreme Court.
- CJI Khanna wrote to the Union government recommending Justice Gavai as the 52nd Chief Justice of India.
- Justice Khanna is set to retire on May 13, 2025.
- If approved, Justice Gavai will take oath on May 14, 2025, and serve until November 23, 2025.
