About
- Batukeshwar Dutt (1910–1965) was a socialist revolutionary and a key member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).
- Best known for carrying out the Central Legislative Assembly Bombing (8 April 1929) with Bhagat Singh to protest against the Public Safety Bill and Trade Disputes Bill.
- The bombs were low-intensity and non-lethal, intended to "make the deaf hear" rather than cause casualties.
Key Contributions
- Voluntarily surrendered after the Assembly bombing to use the British courts as a platform to spread revolutionary ideas.
- Undertook hunger strikes demanding equal treatment and better conditions for Indian political prisoners.
- Sentenced to transportation for life (Kalapani) and imprisoned in the Cellular Jail, Andaman Islands.
- After his release in 1938, he joined the Quit India Movement (1942) and was imprisoned again.
