BBMP SENSORS TO TACKLE FLOODING
BBMP SENSORS TO TACKLE FLOODING
NEWS – BBMP Installs Water Level Gauging Sensors for Flood Management
HIGHLIGHTS
- The BBMP installed water level gauging sensors at 124 locations in response to recent heavy rainfall exposing vulnerabilities in the city’s monsoon preparedness
- The sensors are solar-powered, enabling continuous monitoring of water levels + Data from the sensors is transmitted to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) control room.
- KSNDMC relays water level information to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) of the BBMP + This integration allows for real-time assessment and response to potential flooding situations.
- Sensors at raja kaluves are color-coded (green, blue, red, black) to signify water levels + Green and blue indicate safe levels, red signals danger, and black indicates flooding, aiding in timely response and evacuation efforts
- BBMP’s ongoing initiatives include constructing RCC walls along 581 km of stormwater drains + Desilting works for 581 km of drains are in progress, with completion targeted before May 31
- Permanent flood mitigation measures are being implemented in 74 flood-prone areas, complemented by temporary measures across all vulnerable locations.
