- Regional intergovernmental military alliance that was established on May 15, 1992. Organization’s primary purpose is to ensure the collective security of its member states, which are primarily former Soviet republics
- Member states of the CSTO are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan
- Headquarters of the organization is located in Moscow, Russia
- Operates on the principle of collective defense, meaning that an attack against one member state is considered an attack against all members, and the organization is committed to providing assistance and support to the affected member
