NEWS – CSIR’s ‘Phenome India’ Project Hits Target with 10,000 Samples Collected, Aims for New Era in Precision Medicine

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The ‘Phenome India-CSIR Health Cohort Knowledgebase’ (PI-CHeCK) project was launched on December 7, 2023, with the goal of assessing risk factors for non-communicable cardio-metabolic diseases in the Indian population.
  • The successful conclusion of the first phase was marked by a special event, ‘Phenome India Unboxing 1.0’, held at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa on June 3, 2024.
  • The project successfully collected over 10,000 samples from participants, surpassing its initial target.
  • Significance of the Study : This is the first pan-India longitudinal study aimed at developing a prediction model for cardio-metabolic diseases, especially diabetes, liver diseases, and cardiac diseases

  • Sample Collection: Nearly 10,000 participants, including CSIR employees, pensioners, and their spouses from 17 states and 24 cities, volunteered comprehensive health data.
  • Data Parameters: Collected data includes clinical questionnaires, lifestyle and dietary habits, anthropometric measurements, imaging/scanning data, and extensive biochemical and molecular data
