Context: PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 have delivered over 1 crore pucca houses to beneficiaries.

About PMAY-U

• Launched: 2015 by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
• Aim: Provide all-weather pucca houses with basic amenities to the urban poor, including slum dwellers.
• Ownership: House registered in an adult female member’s name or jointly with spouse.
• Eligibility: EWS, LIG and MIG families without a pucca house.
• Coverage: Statutory towns under Census 2011 and subsequently notified ULBs.

Funding Pattern

• 90:10: NE & Himalayan States and UTs with legislature.
• 60:40: Other States.
• 100% Centre: UTs without legislature.

PMAY-U 2.0

• Period: 2024–2029.
• Target: Additional 1 crore urban poor and middle-class families.
• Assistance: Up to ₹2.5 lakh per eligible household.

Four Verticals

• BLC → Beneficiary-led construction/upgradation.
• AHP → Affordable housing through partnerships.
• ARH → Affordable rental housing for migrants, students and vulnerable groups.
• ISS → 4% interest subsidy on eligible home loans.

Key Features

• TISM: Promotes modern, green and disaster-resistant construction.
• Digital governance: GIS geo-tagging, online portals and DBT.
• Convergence: Linked with schemes such as Swachh Bharat, PM SVANidhi, PM Surya Ghar, Ayushman Bharat and Ujjwala Yojana.
