NEWS – The Department of School Education and Literacy Karnataka has announced slew of new initiatives
REDUCING SCHOOL BAG WEIGHT
Introduction of Note Sheets
– Single notebook for multiple subjects or note sheets instead of notebooks
– Sample to be released in 2-3 months
Textbook Division
– Textbooks divided into two parts (pre-mid-term and post-mid-term vacation)
– Aimed at reducing school bag weight
No Bag Day
– Celebrated every third Saturday of the month
– Action against schools that fail to follow guidelines
FREE COACHING FOR COMPETITIVE EXAMS
Eligibility
– 25,000 Pre-University students in government colleges
– Entrance test to shortlist students
Programme Details
– Free coaching for NEET, KCET, and other competitive exams
– Rs 12.5 crore allocated for the program
PROMOTING SCIENCE EDUCATION – MARU SINCHANA PROGRAMME
– Special science coaching in 93 aspirational taluks
– Aimed at encouraging science education in schools
ATTENDANCE TRACKING
Face Recognition System
– To be introduced soon on a pilot basis
– Linked to Students Achievement Tracking System (SATS)
– Aimed at reducing irregularity in government schools
