NEWS – Bescom to set up EV charging stations across Karnataka

HIGHLIGHTS

Objective: Increase the penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) in Karnataka.

Implementation Strategy:

  • Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model:
    • Stations will be set up on government agency land.
    • Revenue-sharing model between investors and government agencies.
    • Target high public movement areas like Deputy Commissioner’s office and APMCs.

Distribution of Charging Stations:

  • APMC Focus:
    • 411 sub-markets under 167 main APMC premises targeted.
    • Higher numbers in districts other than Bengaluru.

Challenges and Expectations:

    • APMC stations expected to encourage EV use in rural markets.
  • GESCOM Region Specifics:
    • Low EV penetration in regions like Kalaburagi, Raichur, and Yadgir.
    • Focus on two-wheeler EVs and electric autorickshaws due to affordability and accessibility.
