- Observed annually on 15 June
- To promote awareness about wind energy as a clean and renewable source.
- Organized by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and WindEurope.
- Started in 2007 in Europe and became a global initiative in 2009.
- Theme 2026: “Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration”.
Global Scenario
- Global installed wind power capacity has crossed 1,299 GWà surpassing the 1 TW milestone.
- China, USA, and India are the leading contributors to new wind capacity additions.
Wind Energy in India
- India is the 4th largest wind power market globally.
- Current installed wind power capacity: 56 GW.
- Record addition of 1 GW in 2025–26.
- Targets: 100 GW by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035, contributing to India's 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target.
- Leading wind-energy-producing states: Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Karnataka.
