NEWS: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)à  is hosting the Global Wind Day 2026 Conference in Goa.

About Global Wind Day

  • Observed annually on 15 June
  • To promote awareness about wind energy as a clean and renewable source.
  • Organized by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and WindEurope.
  • Started in 2007 in Europe and became a global initiative in 2009.
  • Theme 2026: “Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration”.

Global Scenario

  • Global installed wind power capacity has crossed 1,299 GWà surpassing the 1 TW milestone.
  • China, USA, and India are the leading contributors to new wind capacity additions.

Wind Energy in India

  • India is the 4th largest wind power market globally.
  • Current installed wind power capacity: 56 GW.
  • Record addition of 1 GW in 2025–26.
  • Targets: 100 GW by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035, contributing to India's 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target.
  • Leading wind-energy-producing states: Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Karnataka.
