NEWS – Hambi Kepathu sport of North east gets revival at Karbi Youth Festival (KYF)
HAMBI KEPATHU
- Also known as Simrit
- played on three rectangular courts by two teams comprising three members each
- Each member of a team has to place a ‘hambi’, or the glazed creeper seed, vertically on the midpoint of the boundary line of his court for a player of the rival team to hit with his ‘hambi’
- African dream herb’s dark brown and spherical seeds are used to play the game
- The game has also fueled a drive for conserving a African dream herb
AFRICAN DREAM HERB
- Typically refers to the plant known as Entada rheedii
- Commonly called the African Dream Root or Snuff Box Sea Bean
- Large woody climber native to various parts of Africa, including South Africa, Mozambique, and Madagascar
- The plant produces large pods containing seeds, which are often referred to as “dream seeds.”
- The seeds are known for their large size and lightweight nature, allowing them to float and travel across oceans
