HENLEY PASSPORT INDEX
- Annual global ranking of passports based on their visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to other countries
- Produced by Henley & Partners, a global citizenship and residence advisory firm, in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA)
- Based on the number of countries and territories their holders can visit without obtaining a visa in advance. It takes into account both visa-free and visa-on-arrival access
- Passport rankings are influenced by factors such as diplomatic agreements between countries, political and economic stability, and security concerns. Changes in these factors can lead to fluctuations in passport rankings
- Started in 2006
- Includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations
2024 RANKINGS
- Top rankers – France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain – allowing visa-free entry to 194 global destinations
- Average number of destinations travellers are able to access visa-free has nearly doubled, from 58 in 2006 to 111 in 2024
- India’s passport ranked 80th in the list (Visa free travel to 62 countries)
- Afghanistan occupies the bottom spot on the list
- Syria, with visa-free access to only 29 destinations
- The United Arab Emirates was the fastest climber over the past decade, jumping to 11th place and offering access to 183 destinations without a visa.
