NEWS – Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav launched the Ideas4LiFE portal to invite ideas for environment-friendly lifestyle products and services
AIM – Encourage students, research scholars, faculty, and innovators to contribute innovative ideas for sustainable consumption
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
– The portal will accept ideas and innovations online
– Winning ideas will be recognized and awarded with attractive prizes
– The initiative is part of the Mission LiFE global movement for environmental sustainability
THEMES
The Ideas4LiFE Ideathon covers seven themes of Mission LiFE:
- Save Water
- Save Energy
- Reduce Waste
- Reduce E-Waste
- Say No to Single-Use Plastics
- Adopt Sustainable Food Systems
- Adopt Healthy Lifestyles
PARTNERSHIPS
– UNICEF is an active partner in the implementation of Mission LiFE
– MoEFCC and UNICEF YuWaah developed the Ideas4LiFE portal
MISSION LIFE: A GLOBAL MOVEMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVING
– Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) is an India-led global mass movement to promote individual and community action for environmental protection
– Launched at COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021
– Objective – Mobilize one billion Indians and people worldwide to adopt sustainable lifestyles + Embolden the Pro Planet People (P3) spirit
Strategy
– Three-pronged approach to change people’s approach to sustainability:
- Demand: Nudge individuals to practice simple environment-friendly actions in daily life
- Supply: Enable industries and markets to respond to changing demand
- Policy: Influence government and industrial policy to support sustainable consumption and production
Impact – Aims to make a significant impact on environmental conservation through collective action
