HIGHLIGHTS
National Honour
- Recipient: Govindrajan Padmanaban
- Noted biochemist and former director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
- First recipient of the Vigyan Ratna, India’s highest science award.
Vigyan Ratna Award
- Purpose: To honor outstanding contributions in science and technology.
- Other Awards:
- Vigyan Shri: 13 awards to distinguished scientists.
- Vigyan Yuva: 18 awards for young scientists.
- Vigyan Team: Awarded to ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 team.
Award Details
- Vigyan Ratna: Recognizes lifetime achievements in any field of science and technology.
- Vigyan Shri: Distinguished contributions in any science and technology field.
- Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar: For young scientists up to 45 years with exceptional contributions.
- Vigyan Team: For teams of three or more scientists/researchers with notable collective contributions.
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP)
- Objective: Recognize significant contributions in science, technology, and innovation.
- Eligibility:
- Scientists/technologists/innovators from any sector, including those working abroad with benefits to Indian communities.
- Domains Covered:
- Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering Sciences, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Technology & Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science and Technology, and Others.
- Selection Committee: Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar Committee (RVPC), led by the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
