LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION
- IHRC conducted an online competition on MyGov portal in 2023 for logo and motto designs.

Logo Interpretation
- Lotus Petals: Symbolize IHRC as a resilient institution for historical records.
- Sarnath Pillar: Represents India’s glorious past.
- Brown Theme: Reflects the mission of preserving India’s historical records.
Motto Significance
- Translates to “Where history is preserved for the future.”
- Highlights IHRC’s role in identifying, collecting, cataloguing, and maintaining historical documents.
- Emphasizes the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding historical knowledge for present and future generations.
INDIAN HISTORICAL RECORDS COMMISSION (IHRC)
Establishment and Purpose
- Formed in 1919 as an all-India forum for creators, custodians, and users of historical records.
- Aims to advise the Government of India on record management and their use for historical research.
- The National Archives of India, New Delhi, serves as the Secretariat since 1911.
Leadership and Membership
- Headed by the Union Minister of Culture.
- Comprises 134 members, including government agencies, nominees, representatives from State/UT Archives, Universities, and Learned Institutions.
- Conducted 62 sessions thus far.
