NEWS – Two anti-submarine warfare (ASW) shallow watercraft vessels – INS Malpe and INS Mulki – launched at Cochin Shipyard.

• Dimensions: 78 meters long, 11.36 meters wide, and a draught of 2.7 meters.
• Speed: Maximum speed of 25 knots.
• Endurance: Can cover 1,800 nautical miles.
• Displacement: Approximately 900 tonnes.
• Armament: Equipped with torpedoes, ASW rockets, mines, and a close-in weapon system.

Purpose and Capabilities

• Operations: Designed for anti-submarine warfare, low-intensity maritime operations, mine-laying, and search and rescue.
• Replacement: The vessels will replace the in-service Abhay-class ASW corvettes.
• Indigenous Technology: Fitted with indigenously developed sonar for underwater surveillance.
