NEWS – NABARD initiates its first programme in Kollam with an integrated tribal development programme in Kulathupuzha grama panchayat

HIGHLIGHTS

• Implementing Agency: Thanal, an environment organisation, will oversee the project aiming to uplift livelihoods of 413 tribal families over five years.
• Objectives: Focuses on sustainable livelihoods and agricultural enhancement through crops like pepper, arecanut, coconut, ginger, turmeric, and plantain, alongside goat rearing, poultry, beekeeping, fish farming, and fodder production.
• Components: Includes water resource development, leadership training, awareness campaigns, sanitation and hygiene initiatives, marketing and branding workshops, and skill development.
• Economic Empowerment: Plans to establish a Tribal Farmer Producer Company (FPO) to enhance community economic empowerment.
• Previous Success: Earlier collaborations between Thanal and NABARD supported sustainable development across five villages in Ranni taluk, Pathanamthitta, benefiting 429 families through animal husbandry and skill development programs
