NEWS – The Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai granted GI tags to eight products from Assam
WHICH PRODUCTS GET GI TAG
Rice Beer Varieties (3 GI Tags)
- Bodo Jou Gwran: Highest alcohol content (16.11%) among Bodo rice beers.
- Maibra Jou Bidwi: Served as a welcome drink, prepared by fermenting half-cooked rice with yeast (amao).
- Bodo Jou Gishi: Another traditionally fermented rice-based alcoholic beverage.
Traditional Food Items (4 GI Tags)
- Bodo Napham: A dish made with fermented fish.
- Bodo Ondla: Rice powder curry flavored with garlic, ginger, salt, and alkali.
- Bodo Gwkha (Gwka Gwkhi): Prepared during the Bwisagu festival.
- Bodo Narzi: Semi-fermented dish made from jute leaves, rich in Omega 3, vitamins, calcium, and magnesium.
Handicrafts
- Bodo Aronai: A small, intricately woven cloth, also awarded the GI tag.
