NEWS – New HAL Facilities to Support ISRO’s LVM3 Programme
HIGHLIGHTS
- Location: Aerospace division, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru.
Purpose and Capabilities
- Objective: Enhance production capabilities to meet ISRO’s growing needs.
- Specific Focus: Production of India’s heaviest rocket, the Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3).
Production Capacity and Requirements
- Current Requirement: ISRO requires six LVM3 launches annually.
- Existing Capacity: Only two LVM3 launches per year.
- New Capacity: HAL’s new facilities will enable the production of six LVM3s per year.
Facilities Overview
- Propellant Tank Production Facility
- Specialisation: High-performance fuel and oxidiser tanks.
- Components: Tanks measuring 4 meters in diameter and up to 15 meters in length.
- CNC Machining Facility
- Technology: Advanced computer numerical control machines.
- Capabilities: High-precision fabrication of 4.5-meter-class rings and propellant tank domes for the LVM3
