‘ONE VEHICLE, ONE FASTAG’ INITIATIVE
‘ONE VEHICLE, ONE FASTAG’ INITIATIVE
NEWS – National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative
ONE VEHICLE, ONE FASTAG
- Tagging users to complete the Know Your Customer (KYC) process
- Aims to enhance the efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection system and provide seamless movement at the Toll Plazas
- Introduced to discourage user behavior of using single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle
NHAI FASTAG
FASTag program implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
- Definition:
- FASTag: It is an electronic toll collection system in India that uses Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable cashless toll payments.
- How FASTag Works:
- FASTags are affixed to the windscreen of a vehicle, and they contain a unique identification number linked to the vehicle’s registration details and a prepaid account.
- As a vehicle approaches a toll booth on a national highway, the FASTag reader scans the tag, and the toll amount is automatically deducted from the linked prepaid account.
- Benefits of NHAI FASTag:
- Time Efficiency: FASTag helps reduce waiting time at toll plazas, as vehicles can pass through without stopping for manual toll payments.
- Cashless Transactions: It promotes digital transactions and eliminates the need for carrying cash for toll payments.
- Online Account Management: Users can manage their FASTag accounts online, monitor transactions, and recharge the prepaid balance as needed.
- National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) Program:
- FASTag is part of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program, which aims to standardize and integrate toll collection across the country.
- NHAI’s Role:
- NHAI, as the implementing agency, has been actively promoting and overseeing the deployment of FASTag on national highways
