Why in news? Karnataka government had announced the Rajyotsava Prashasti for different fields.

Highlights:

• ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, golfer Aditi Ashok, and retired Supreme Court judge V. Gopala Gowda are among the 68 people and 10 organisations selected for the Rajyotsava Award – 2023
• Huchchamma Basappa Chowdri, who donated two acres of land, worth more than ₹1 crore, for the development of a government school in her village awarded with Rajyotsava prashasti.
• Hasanabba, popularly known as Charmadi Hasanabba, who has saved accident victims in the Charmadi Ghat by shifting them to hospitals at the right time, is also a recipient of the award
• Lieutenant General Codanda Poovaiah Cariappa, who served in the Indian Army and actors ‘Dingri’ Nagaraj and B. Janardhana, popularly known as Bank Janardhana have been selected for the award in the cinema category.
• Three centenarians — K. Roopa Naik (social service) from Davangere, Husenabi Buden Sab Siddi (folk art) from Uttara Kannada, and freedom fighter Puttaswamy Gowda (Ramanagara) have also bagged the award.

• Film/Cinema: ‘Dingri’ Nagaraj and B. Janardhana
• Theatre:G. Chidambara Rao Jambe, P. Gangadhara Swami, H.B. Sarojamma , Thaiyabkhan M. Inamdar, Vishwanath Vamshakrutha Mata and P. Thippeswamy.
• Sculptures/Art/Handicraft: Shivashankar, Kalappa Vishwakarma, Martha Jakimovich and P. Gowraiah.
• Yakshagana: Agrodu Mohandas Pai, K. Leelavathi Baipadithaya , Keshappa Shillikyathara and Dalawai Siddappa.
• Folk Art: Husenabi Buden Sab Siddi , Shivangi Shanmar , Mahadev, Narasappa, Shankuntala Devala Naik, H.K. Karamanchappa , Shambu Baligara, Vibhuti Gundappa , and Chowdamma.
• Social Service: Huchchamma Chowdri, Charmadi Hasanabba , Roopa Naik , Nijagunanda Mahaswami and Nagaraju G.
• Administration:V. Balaram.
• Medical: Ramachandra and Prashanta Shetty.
• Literature: Naganna, Subbu Holeya , Satish Kulkarni , Lakshmipathi Kolara, Parappa Gurupadappa Siddapura and K. Sharifa.
• Education: Ramanna Havele, K. Chandrashekar and K.T. Chandru.
• Sports: Divya T.S. , Aditi Ashok and Ashok Gagigeppa Yenagi.
• Judiciary: Gopala Gowda.
• Agriculture/Environment: Somanatha Reddy Poorva, Dhyavanagouda T. Patil and Shivareddy Hanuma Reddy Vasana.
• Miscellaneous:M. Madari, Haji Abdulla, Parkala, ‘Mimikri’ Dayananda , Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj and Lieutenant General Codanda Poovaiah Cariappa.
• Media: Dinesh Amin Mattu , Javarappa , Maya Sharma and Rafi Bhandari.
• Science/Technology: Somanath and Gopalan Jagadish.
• NRI Kannadigas: Seetharam Iyengar, Deepak Shetty, and Shashikiran Shetty. Freedom fighter: Puttaswamy Gowda.
• Ten organisations have also been chosen for the award.

About Karnataka Rajyotsava Prashasti

• Second highest civilian honor of the Karnataka
• Conferred annually by the Karnataka Government on the occasion of the establishment of the state on November 1.
• It was formerly called as Mysore State Award
• First awarded: 1966
• Rewards: 5 lakh, 25 gm of gold and a plaque
• The award was not conferred in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980 and 2009.
