Why in news?

Noted ophthalmic surgeon from Hubballi, Srinivas M. Joshi of M.M. Joshi Eye Institute bagged the Rhett-Buckler Award for a record sixth time at the annual conference of the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS) held at New York in the U.S. recently.

Highlights:

• Srinivas Joshi bagged the award for the best surgical video during the conference and it is the sixth time that he has won it.

About the award:

• ASRS celebrates the talents, observational skills, innovation and creativity of retina specialists across the world by analysing videos of their surgeries and offers the prestigious Rhett Buckler Award, considered an ‘Oscar’ in the field, for the best videos.

• The award includes a statuette custom-sculpted by RS Owens & Company, which manufactures the Oscar statuettes.
