The Sahitya Akademi announced its prestigious Sahitya Akademi Awards, Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2021 in various languages.
ABOUT SAHITYA AKADEMI AWARD
- Literary honour in India
- By Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters
- Annually conferred on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the 24 major Indian languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution recognised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi
- Established in 1954
- Comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000
- Purpose is to recognise and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends.
- Plaque awarded by the Sahitya Akademi was designed by the Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray
- Literary critic D.S. Nagabhushan has been awarded the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for 2021 for his work Gandhi Kathana, biography of Mahatma Gandhi
- English author Namita Gokhale, Telugu poet Goreti Venkanna and Tamil writer Ambai are among the 20 winners of the Sahitya Akademi award, 2021.
