News: India has launched Semicon 2.0, an expanded version of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to build a complete semiconductor design and manufacturing ecosystem.

- Aim: Position India as a global semiconductor design Intellectual Property (IP) hub and reduce dependence on semiconductor imports.
Six Pillars of Semicon 2.0
- Design: Strengthen chip design capabilities with focus on IP and system design.
- Machines & Materials: Promote manufacturing and R&D of semiconductor equipment, chemicals, and specialty gases.
- Fabs: Establish silicon, compound semiconductor, discrete component, and display fabrication plants; first fab expected by 2028.
- ATMP/OSAT: Expand Assembly, Testing, Marking, Packaging (ATMP) and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) capabilities.
- Research & Development: Develop advanced semiconductor technologies beyond the current 28–110 nm nodes through collaboration with leading research institutions.
- Talent Development: Strengthen chip design education through 315 universities using advanced Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools.
