NEWS – Karnataka health department relaunched the Shuchi scheme

HIGHLIGHTS

• Scheme for distribute free menstrual pads to school and college girls between the ages of 10 and 18 years
• Launched the programme in 2013-14
• Aim – create awareness about menstrual hygiene among girls studying in government and aided schools and colleges across the state
• Health department will directly send free menstrual kits to schools and colleges. The kits will have pad packets with 10 pads each, and enough packets to last each beneficiary a year
• Pilot launch of Maithri scheme was in Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar districts last year
