- Top gymnast Dipa Karmakar became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the Asian Senior Championships as she clinched the yellow metal in the women’s vault event in Tashkent. Dipa secured an average of 13.566 in the vault final on the last day of competitions. Dipa had won a bronze medal in the same event in the 2015 edition
- Three faculty members at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) feature in the first batch of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Young Associates. China surpassed the U.S. as India’s largest trading partner with $118.4 billion in two-way commerce. India had a trade surplus with the U.S. ($36.74 billion) and other select partners. Overall, India’s total trade deficit decreased compared to the previous fiscal year
- The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated the Shallow Aquifer Management (SAM) model on a pilot basis, aiming to recharge groundwater and tackle urban flooding by drilling shallow borewells, pumping water, and channeling it through recharge pits across various parks in the city.
- The WIPO member states adopted a new treaty focusing on enhancing the patent system’s efficacy, preventing erroneous patents related to genetic resources and traditional knowledge, marking a historic breakthrough after a 25-year negotiation process.
