Why in news? Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has been accorded the status of Miniratna Category-I Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE)
Highlights:
- According to the government norms, Miniratna Category-I status is granted to CPSEs that have made a profit in the last three years continuously, have a pre-tax profit is Rs.30 crores or more in at least one of the three years, and have a positive net worth.

- Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) is a company of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, established to facilitate the implementation of the National Solar Mission (NSM).
- It is the only Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) dedicated to the solar energy sector.
- The company is responsible for implementation VGF schemes for large-scale grid-connected projects under National Solar Mission, solar park scheme and grid-connected solar rooftop scheme, along with a host of other specialised schemes such as defence scheme, solar canals, and Indo-Pak border scheme.
- It is registered under the Companies Act, 2013.
