SOLAR ENERGY CORPORATION OF INDIA (SECI) INITIATIVES FOR GREEN AMMONIA PRODUCTION

NEWS – SECI’s recent Request for Selection (RfS) for Green Ammonia Producers marks a significant step in India’s transition towards Green Hydrogen as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Objective: The RfS aims to select Green Ammonia Producers through competitive bidding under Mode 2A of the SIGHT Programme.
  • Capacity: The bidding process targets a total capacity of 5.39 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT)/annum of Green Ammonia production for supply to fertilizer companies.
  • Bidding Process: The competitive bidding will be conducted online through e-bidding followed by e-Reverse Auction to ensure cost-effective selection.

SIGHT

  • Subcomponent of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (under Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE)
  • Aims – bolstering domestic electrolyser manufacturing and green hydrogen production.
  • Dual incentive mechanisms: Incentive for Electrolyser Manufacturing
  • Implementation: The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is responsible for executing the scheme

NATIONAL GREEN HYDROGEN MISSION (NGHM)

  • Launch: Launched on 4th January 2023 with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores.
  • Goals: Contribute to India’s self-reliance in clean energy, lead in Green Hydrogen technology globally, and decarbonize the economy.
