SPACE APPLICATIONS CENTRE (SAC)
- SAC, an ISRO research hub in Ahmedabad, has two campuses for diverse activities.
- Genesis: Established in 1966 as Experimental Satellite Communication Earth Station (ESCES) by the late Vikram Sarabhai; merged units in 1972 to form SAC.
- Core Competence: Specializes in space instruments for national development.
- Applications: Meets communication, navigation, and remote sensing needs; contributes to ISRO missions.
- Develops transponders for satellites, aids in VSAT, DTH, Internet, broadcasting; designs sensors, software for Earth Observation.
- Diverse Applications: Expertise in Geosciences, Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change, Oceanography, Atmosphere, etc.
- Facilities: Advanced labs for payload integration, fabrication, environmental testing, image processing, project management.
