Overview

• Initiative by MoEF&CC
• In September 2022, MoEF&CC introduced guidelines for ‘Swachh Vayu Survekshan’.
• Objective: Rank 130 National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) cities to track progress in reducing air pollution by up to 40% by 2025-26.

Objectives

• Awareness Creation: Raise awareness about air quality and health impacts.
• Comparison: Assess and compare air quality across different cities.
• Goal Achievement: Contribute to NCAP’s aim of “Clean air for all.”

Assessment & Awards

• Assessment Method: Cities are evaluated based on submissions to the PRANA portal.
• Award Categories:
  • Category-1 (Population over 10 Lakhs): Surat, Jabalpur, Agra.
  • Category-2 (Population between 3 and 10 Lakhs): Firozabad, Amravati, Jhansi.
  • Category-3 (Population under 3 Lakhs): Raebareli, Nalgonda, Nalagarh.
• Award Items: Cash prizes, trophies, and certificates.
