NEWS – Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) LAUNCHED Swachhata Pakhwada in Northeast
SWACHHATA PAKHWADA
- Launched in April 2016 under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
- Objective: Intense focus on Swachhata issues/practices by engaging central government ministries/departments.
- Aim and Implementation:
- Aims to involve all ministries/departments in Swachh Bharat Mission activities.
- Annual calendar pre-circulated to plan Pakhwada activities.
- Ministries monitored via Swachhata Samiksha online system, sharing action plans, images, videos
- The programme includes elimination of open defecation, conversion of unsanitary toilets to pour flush toilets, eradication of manual scavenging, municipal solid waste management and bringing about a behavioural change in people regarding healthy sanitation practices
SWACHH BHARAT MISSION
- Launched by Indian government on October 2, 2014.
- Covers rural and urban areas.
- Urban component managed by Ministry of Urban Development, rural component by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
- Focus areas include open defecation elimination, toilet upgrades, manual scavenging eradication, solid waste management, and promoting healthy sanitation practices.
