Why in news? Prime Minister announced the setting up of the tribal university in Telangana

Highlights:

• Cabinet approved amendment to the Central Universities Act, 2009 for setting up University
• It will be named after tribal goddesses Samakka and Sarakka.
• University aims to increase access and improve the quality of higher education by providing research facilities in tribal art, culture and traditional knowledge system in the State

About Sammakka Saralamma      

• It is a Hindu Tribal goddesses of Koya tribe
• Sammakka and Saralamma” are mother and daughter who fought against an unjustice law(rule) during Kakatiyas period.
• Medaram Jatara will be celebrated to honour goddess in the state of Telangana
• Jatara will be held at Medaram in Tadvai Mandala in Mulugu district.
