UN COUNTER-TERRORISM TRUST FUND
NEWS – India recently contributed $500,000 to the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Trust Fund (UNCTF), showcasing its unwavering commitment to the global fight against terrorism.
UN COUNTER-TERRORISM TRUST FUND
- Established in 2009 and transferred to the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in 2017.
- Open to contributions from Governments, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations, private institutions, and individuals.
- Contributions can be unearmarked or earmarked for specific UNOCT global programmes or initiatives
- Utilization of India’s Contribution:
- India’s contribution will primarily support UNOCT’s global programmes, focusing on Countering Financing of Terrorism (CFT) and Countering Terrorist Travel Programme (CTTP).
- Aims to enhance the capacities of member states in eastern and southern Africa to combat financing of terrorism and prevent terrorist movement and travel.
UN OFFICE OF COUNTER-TERRORISM (UNOCT)
- Established on June 15, 2017, following the adoption of UN General Assembly resolutions.
- Functions include providing leadership on counter-terrorism mandates, enhancing coordination across UN entities, delivering capacity-building assistance, and advocating for resource mobilization.
