News: The Union Ministry of Education released the UDISE+ 2025–26 Report, covering 14.67 lakh schools and 24+ crore students across India.
Key Highlights
- Teachers: Crossed 1.02 crore, up 8.3% from 2022–23.
- Pupil–Teacher Ratio (PTR): Improved to 10:1 (Foundational), 12:1 (Preparatory), 17:1 (Middle), 21:1 (Secondary)—better than the NEP 2020 norm of 30:1.
- Lower Dropouts: Fell to 1.8% (Preparatory) and 7.0% (Secondary).
- Higher Retention: Reached 83.7% (Middle) and 51.9% (Secondary).
- Higher GER: Secondary GER increased from 68.5% to 71.7%.
- Better Infrastructure:9% schools have computers, 95% have electricity, and 98.5% have girls' toilets.
- Women in Education: Women form 54.9% of teachers; girls account for 48.4% of enrolment.
- Gender Parity: GPI above 1 at all levels, indicating proportionally higher participation of girls.
