UNION GOVT INITATIVES ON LANGUAGES
NEWS – Recently union government unveiled 2 initiatives on Languages
ASMITA
- Name: ASMITA (Augmenting Study Materials in Indian Languages through Translation and Academic Writing)
- Objective: To produce 22,000 books in Indian languages over the next five years
- Organized By: Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission (UGC)
Primary Goals:
- Promote and integrate Indian languages into the education system
- Enrich the learning experience and make it more inclusive
- Enhance accessibility and quality of educational materials across various Indian languages
Project Implementation:
- Nodal Universities: Thirteen nodal universities identified to lead the project
- Member Universities: Universities from various regions will collaborate
- Standard Operating Procedure (SOP): Includes identification of nodal officers, authors, title allocation, writing and editing, manuscript submission, review and plagiarism check, finalisation, designing, proof-reading, and e-publication
BAHUBHASHA SHABDAKOSH INITIATIVE
Overview:
- Purpose: A single-point reference for words in all Indian languages and their meanings
- Developed By: Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in collaboration with Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti
- Applications: Helps use Bharatiya words, phrases, and sentences in domains like IT, industry, research, and education
Impact:
- Aims to preserve and promote India’s language traditions
- Supports learners in their academic pursuits
