Project Overview
- Objective: Diversion of west-flowing river water to address drinking water needs in South Karnataka.
- Water Sources: Yettinahole, Kadumanehole, Kerihole, Hongadahalla (tributaries of Netravati).
- Estimated Cost: ₹23,251.66 crore.
- State Government Expenditure: ₹16,076 crore.
- Stage-1 Components: Eight weirs, pump houses, and pipeline work.
Beneficiaries
- Targeted Districts: Kolar, Chickballapur, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Hassan, Tumakuru, and Chikkamagaluru.
- Water Supply: 24 tmcft to fill 527 tanks.
- Population Served: 75 lakh people in 6,657 villages and 38 towns.
Dam Safety Measures
- Committee: Led by former CWC Chairman A.K. Bajaj.
- Purpose: Audit report of safety for all dams in the state.
