INDIA’S COCONUT SECTOR

India is the world’s largest coconut producer, with Kerala leading in area, Tamil Nadu in production and Andhra Pradesh in productivity; the Coconut Promotion Scheme promotes sustainability, value addition and farmer income, while the Coconut Development Board (Kochi) supports production, processing and marketing.

NEWS: Coconut Promotion Scheme announced under Union Budget 2026–27 to promote sustainability, value addition and farmers’ income.

  • Milling Copra → Oil extraction
  • Ball/Edible Copra → Food & religious use
  • Procurement: NAFED & NCCF → Central Nodal Agencies for copra procurement under MSP.
