Key Features
- Purpose: Honours individuals who make exceptional contributions to national unity and integrity.
- Award: Consists of a medal + citation; no monetary grant.
- Medal: Lotus-leaf shaped, made of gold and silver, bearing Sardar Patel’s portrait and the national emblem.
- Presentation: Expected to be presented by the President of India, alongside the Padma Awards.
Selection Process
- Nominations: Invited from States/UTs, authorities and the public through an online portal.
- Selection Committee: Constituted by the Prime Minister; includes Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to PM, Principal Secretary to President, Home Secretary and other nominated members.
- Verification: Selected candidates undergo verification by investigating agencies before final recommendation.
