NEWS – The Cabinet approved the National Sports Policy (NSP)-2025 to make India a top-5 global sporting nation by 2047

HIGHLIGHTS

• It replaces the 2001 policy and aligns with India’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics
• NSP-2025 is built on five pillars: global excellence, economic development, social development, people’s movement, and integration with education
• Formulated through wide consultations involving ministries, NITI Aayog, states, federations, athletes, and experts
• Emphasises rural sports promotion, grassroots development, and a whole-of-government implementation model
• Proposes improved sports governance, private sector engagement, and adoption of technology and innovation
• Highlights sports’ role in boosting tourism, economy, and job creation through manufacturing and entrepreneurship
• Encourages PPPs, CSR funding, and innovative financial models for infrastructure and talent development
• Reaffirms the NEP 2020 goal of integrating sports into education and training for educators
• Aims to establish world-class infrastructure, host international events, and nurture a nationwide sports culture
