NEWS – BBMP Begins Work to Upgrade 75 Junctions Under ‘Suraksha Mission – 75’

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Packages: Divided into 15 work packages

  • Contractors: Work orders have been issued; execution underway (e.g., BHEL junction, Deepanjali Nagar)

Key Features of the Junction Upgrade

  • Safety Enhancements:
    • Geometry corrections to improve traffic flow and prevent accidents
    • Dedicated pedestrian infrastructure: bollards, zebra crossings, lane markers
    • Shoulder drain clearance to prevent flooding
  • Pedestrian Comfort:
    • Ramps and seating arrangements
    • Improved walkability and accessibility
  • Beautification Measures:
    • Fountains, ornamental plants, and decorative lighting
    • Air quality improvement and pollution mitigation through water features
  • Partner: World Resources Institute (WRI) India
  • Criteria for Selection: Based on accident and pedestrian fatality data

Additional Initiatives

  • Underpasses: Geometry and beautification work at Mehkri and C.N.R. Rao Circles
  • Future Plans: 20 more junctions to be upgraded under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP)
