CABINET APPROVES FOUR NEW SEMICONDUCTOR PLANTS

NEWS – The Union Cabinet approved four projects under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), furthering India’s push to become a global electronics manufacturing hub.

Project Details

  • Total Investment: ₹4,594 crore
  • Location Distribution:
    • Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Two projects
    • Punjab: One project
    • Andhra Pradesh: One project (exact location yet to be finalised)
  • Cumulative Mission Projects: Now 10 under the ₹76,000-crore ISM

Companies & Specialisations

  1. SiCSem – Silicon carbide integrated facility, Info Valley, Bhubaneswar.
  2. Continental Device India Pvt. Ltd. – Expansion of discrete semiconductor manufacturing facility, Mohali, Punjab.
  3. 3D Glass Solutions Inc. – Vertically integrated advanced packaging & embedded glass substrate unit, Bhubaneswar.
  4. Advanced System in Package (ASIP) Technologies – Semiconductor unit in Andhra Pradesh.

India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)

  • Launched: 2021, under Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY)
  • Financial Outlay: ₹76,000 crore
  • Objective: Build a vibrant semiconductor & display ecosystem; position India as a global electronics manufacturing and design hub.
  • Function: Operates as a specialised division within Digital India Corporation with full administrative and financial powers.
  • Advisory Board: Comprises global semiconductor experts.
